Arturo Soto – The Distance

Arturo Soto is from Mexico and lives in Panama. In 2005 he graduated Magna Cum Laude the Savannah College of Art and Design, BFA Photography, BFA Film and Television and in 2008 the School of Visual Arts from New York, MFA Photography, Video and Related Media. I’m glad that I met him. The project featured below is about couples, about love with no issues.

The Distance is a slide projection of fifty portraits of young couples (at least one of them had to be in his/her twenties). Their name and age is indicated below each image, together with the length of their relationship. The work utilizes the social convention of the formal portrait to examine the possible disconnect between visual and textual information, as well as photography’s unreliability to capture the feelings between two persons.
