Oliver Merce – Orasul Nou

“Orașul Nou” (New Town) is a district of the city Anina built in the 80’s in order to accommodate people who worked at the time in the thermal power station of Anina. This power station was supposed to work with shists, but it never produced electricity. Today, from the entire power station only a few ruins are left, the facility being closed in 1988. The photos in this series are part of a project in progress and they try to document the life of the inhabitants of this city district which, at one time, was dependent on the thermal power station.” – Oliver Merce
