Ioana Cîrlig – Gyna
Gyna is 16. She lives in an old school in Brad with her family: her parents, her younger brother and sister and her one-year-old daughter, Alesia. She left her boyfriend before Alesia was born and came back home to live with her parents. With no jobs available, her parents sometimes go looking for iron in the ruins of the old gold mines, although there’s not much left.
Gyna would like to go back to school and finish 10th grade, maybe after her daughter is a little older. She wants to get her driver’s license, travel and fall in love.
Gyna series is part of Postindustrial Stories, an independent documentary photography project done by Ioana Cîrlig and Marin Raica. Over the next two years they will document areas in the vecinity of important industrial centers in Western and Central Romania.
