Sergiu Salcau – Christmas in the slums
Together with FCA (the Christian Foundation of Aid) and courtesy to them, I was able to come back to the slums situated on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca. This ‘ghetto’ is the home of a large number of Roma families. A sore sight to say the least, but the foundation went there, along with volunteers and other people directly involved in work with those families, to give out presents, sing songs and bring some joy to the children who are overwhelmed by the life led there. What I saw there is important, the reality of that place is important. It can’t be stressed in words, not even in photographs, but Pata Rât is a community; beyond political, sentimental and propagandistic issues, the reality of the place hits you as soon as you set foot there.”
