Ioana Bîrdu – People and Books

Ioana is addicted to books. She sees them all around her, in the people she meets, in the strangers in the street and even in the other books that she reads. “If they don’t show, I look for them, and if I can’t find them, I invent them.” Often she would give all her money on buying books and food and only maybe clothes.

The idea of the project came from a black and white self-portrait she did for a contest. She thought she’d like to have some more images with other readers and their favourite books and began photographing her friends and acquaintances. She started in 2011, but she didn’t give it too much attention until a few weeks ago when she began posting the photos on the project’s Facebook page.

She was surprised to see how many positive reactions the project aroused, so the idea will continue. Thus, those who want to be photographed with their favourite book should write Ioana an e-mail at ioana1005@gmail.com .
