Emanuel Borcescu – The Heroes

“‘The Heroes’ is a cycle of portraits of the most mediatized popular figures in Romania and abroad, from politics, culture, music industry, economy, business and sport.  The ironical message, that no matter their real value, they are first and foremost strong ‘brands’, is sustained by the pseudo-baroque and kitsch elements of the paintings. There is a paradox, even if some of them have true value they become almost brand icons for culture, sport etc. thing that gradually alter their real status.”

Response to Emanuel Borcescu – The Heroes

  1. Some people become “heroes” because of the vast publicity they enjoy. Unfortunately they aren’t role models and kids tend to copy the bad things with them.
I recently heard a discussion between two children and one of them said:
-I want to be rich as Becali and be able to buy everything I want and make people do what I want.
