Jaroslav Kocian – Sisters
“My collection called Sisters belongs to sociological portraits, in which authenticity is of crucial importance. In these portraits, a great role is played by the environment in which the photographed have been captured. In my older cycles I photographed children and teenagers amidst stereotypical and gray panel housing estates which the former regime used to take so much pleasure in. In the more recent cycle Sisters, blending the styles of documentary and staged photography, I often capture various types of interiors and exteriors in which the girls and women in front of the camera grew up, in which they live or where they spend their free time. I try to stylize sisters of various ages, diverse social standing and different characters into gestures and mimical expressions that symbolically imply their natures as well as mutual relations.”
